What is an ABS Filament?
ABS filament is one of 3D printing’s most popular materials, for several good reasons. It is a light and sturdy thermoplastic that has a long lifespan, good impact resistance, and flexibility. It is used as a material for replacement parts for machines and automobiles due to its strength and exceptional mechanical strength at high temperatures. The material is also ideal for popular sports equipment, instruments, and toys.
ABS filament becomes moldable at high temperatures and easy to extrude, which makes it a favorite among 3D printing enthusiasts.
Keene Plastics Village not only uses the best raw materials for their products, but they also implement the most innovative quality control process. KVP’s triple axis flaw detection ensures you receive only the highest caliber materials for your projects, no matter the application.
Where can you use ABS 3D Printing Filament
Due to its durability, strength, and flexibility, there are several uses for ABS filament in 3D printing. You can use it to make plastic auto parts, material handling equipment, toys, and electronic cases, and the like.
Using it as a Printing Material
ABS filaments are suitable for 3D printing. But its composition is petroleum-based, so it is not biodegradable. It also requires a higher temperature to reach the plastic material’s melting point, needing 230°C up to 250°C for it to become workable. The material will emit abrasive fumes, which means that projects using ABS filaments will most likely require a good ventilation system to avoid accumulating clouds of irritating discharge.
Whether you need to create a model for a building project or a prototype for an automobile part, ABS filaments deliver numerous benefits.
